Creating Careers in Cumbria, is an initiative sponsored by Copeland Borough Council, Morgan Sindall, ARUP and supported by Gen2, Job Centre Plus, Inspira and Lakes College.
The Creating Careers in Cumbria programme was put together to offer meaningful working experience and training to local unemployment residents. It offers team building, leadership and development activities.
CLEARNORTH Recruitment heard about the programme when Paul Hardon, ISA Training Manager, delivered a presentation to the Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster. They leapt at the chance to be involved.
As part of the scheme, Jordan was placed with the CLEARNORTH team, based at their office on Westlakes Science Park. Jordan had recently finished his computing qualification and was with the company for one month. He was given a full company induction and his responsibilities included database administration and providing IT support to the team.
Tracey Hutchison, CLEARNORTH Director, believes that work experience is powerful. “I truly believe that meaningful work experience provides vital skills for employment, some things you can only learn whilst on the job. You can’t teach people how to be confident in a working environment and that is those traits that make candidates more employable.”
Towards the end of Jordan’s placement at CLEARNORTH, Tracey was approached by a client who required a computer technician. Although CLEARNORTH only recruit for Engineering and Construction sectors, they were able to put Jordan forward for the role and give him a reference; thanks to the work that he had done completed for them. They went through their top tips for preparing for an interview as well conducting a mock interview with him. All of the hard work that was invested paid off, as he got the job.
Tracey, CLEARNORTH Director, said “we were so pleased to see the progress that Jordan had made over the period that he was with us. It was a pleasure having him on board and watching him develop throughout the programme”.
